In the evening I had an extra fitting, but since she did not turn up I asked my lovely flatemate if I can try some make up and hair styles on her.
I was inspired by magazines, e.g. VOGUE, DRAPERS, internet sources like WGSN and online fashion blogs…

For Estela’s designed long dress I mostly used my favourite water colours, water colour pencils and acrylic for the black part of the dresses to demonstrate our shiny fabric…
The hair and the face of the model is made espcially what Estela wanted…

What kind of Model would fit our collection for S/S 2011/12?
Our concept Mystery/Mirror and the matching styling…
But for our group we needed to find definitly a tall girl, who fits in Estela’s designed dress, since it was over approximately over 165cm long.
We started to asked friends and they asked again there friends.
On the following days we did a casting/fitting and prepared our finished sewed dresses and if not ready sewed at least our final toiles…
As some girls just cancelled one night before the show we needed to find some and my best flat mate asked her fellow student and tada I FOUND MY MODEL FOR MY DESIGN….

After sewing, unpicking, correction, unpicking again wrong…
I could not believe what I finished or if the pattern were smaller than a size 10. But than I realized the mannequine is a size 12 and it was the reason why the dress didn’t fit…
Also the box pleat felt beautifully on the left side…

Today my group apportioned the fabrics, which was bought on tuesday. We also got some extra fabric, just in case we might cut something wrong.
After that I cut all black parts of the Sai’s dress out, since the fabric was really slippery it was necessary to pin where ever I could and i also taped it on some parts of the pattern…

Ayumi’s design’s was basicly 11 pattern pieces…
AYUMI’S DESIGN & TECHNICAL DRAWING by AYUMI MORITA…
I used the dart to make the dress bottom wider.
But it didn’t matches the sizes of each front and back pattern.
Therefore i add 5cm, where it was missed. After I finished one part I talked to Ayumi
if she liked it or if she want any changes. For the next step I pinned the pattern to calico, traced and cut them out.
First I sew the back part and front part and then the side with the pleats.
At the end I connect the collar with the body…
But when I wanted to put the toile on the mannequine totally forgot the opening.
I just sew everything together without to know where the zips goes…
Ayumi wanted the zip in the centre front, so I opened the seam and asked Caryl for
feedback and further advice…
_the diagonal collar was stretched, since I didn’t stay stitched the 1cm seam allowence…
_the collar pattern was wrong…
_I need to make a pattern for a facing…

In the morning part we had a dying workshop in the working room of the ava building.Tess showed us around and started in smaller groups a dye session.
Firstly she took different fabric samples and washed them. After that she prepared one spoon of dying colour powder, salt and heated it up.
Slowly the samples were put piece by piece in the colour soup.
Tess remind us that the intense of the colour will be lighter than we’re seeing during dying. Therefore she showed a long stripe of silk to demonstrate the intension of the colouration trough dip dying.
The result, a nice gradiention from light to dark red. Ten minutes later she took out the samples switched the heater and washed them with cold water.
Additionally she prepared a blue dying pot to mix colours in a garment and the gradiention silk stripe had a beautiful pink, purple colouration and ended with dark blue.
At the end of the session each of us did some dying and our group really enjoyed it. Thank you Tess!!!

In the afternoon lesson Rose gave a us a brief introduction for our sewing file and how we are going to work on it.
Some sewing were quit tricky, e.g. corner/pointed seam or the cargo pocket, but therefore she showed us step by step how we can handle them nicely.

To make sure if I’m doing right I cut the paper pattern for myself and fixed the dress together to see if it’s working as 3-Dimensionale…
